The Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) is a transformative infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving connectivity, and boosting economic development in the region. First proposed in the early 1990s, the project faced decades of delays due to administrative and planning challenges.
Revived in recent years, the 38.3 km access-controlled highway will connect Baanth (GT Road) to Thalian (M-2 Motorway), featuring five interchanges, two major bridges, and multiple overpasses and culverts. The road is designed for high-speed travel with a 90-meter-wide corridor.
As of 2025, nearly 50% of the construction is complete. With funding approved and work progressing steadily, the project is on track for completion by December 2025. It is expected to become a key artery for regional trade and urban expansion.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) features strategically planned interchanges to enhance regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion. Key interchanges are proposed at locations such as GT.Road, Chakbeli Road,Chakri Road, Adyala Road, and Islamabad International Airport, linking major urban and peri-urban centers. These interchanges are designed to support smooth traffic flow, economic activity, and future urban expansion.
